How to choose
The right magnetic locator depends on what you're finding and how often you use it, not on brand or price alone. A few things to weigh:
Sensitivity and depth. Survey-grade work finding small ferrous objects at range calls for a more sensitive unit than routine spot checks.
Application. Property pins and survey monuments, valve boxes and manhole covers, and general utility work each favor a different locator in the lineup.
Operation style. One-hand operation matters most when you're working solo or need a free hand for marking or note-taking.
Frequency of use. Daily, rugged use across varied job sites calls for a different unit than occasional or specialized locating.
